Silver Wrapper and React Presents announce the 5th Annual Freaky Deaky taking place in Chicago, IL at the historic Aragon Entertainment Center on Friday, October 25, 2013! The event features two of Detroit's hottest exports, electro soul/future funk producer/DJ/classically-trained saxaphonist GRiZ and rising hip hop star Danny Brown, along with Owsla recording artist Kill Paris and Brainfeeder's own TOKiMONSTA. Effortlessly incorporating his instrumental zeal for the live saxophone over funky rhythms and jazzy melodic beats, Grant Kwiecinski (aka GRiZ) prepares to release his sophomore album, Rebel Era and a national headlining tour this fall at a mere 23 years old. Although GRiZ cites his remix of Aerosmith's "Dream On" as his big break, it wasn't until his first album, Mad Liberation was unleashed as a free download in late 2012 that his career truly skyrocketed. After DJ'ing parties in a small college town (with his own music, no less), the artist's life drastically changed in less than a year's time. Soon the young and passionate musician was receiving massive support from Pretty Lights, opening up for Bassnectar on his fall tour, and playing alongside Big Gigantic on their Uprising Tour. His forthcoming album, Rebel Era features the first single, "Gettin' Live", which hit over 400,000 plays on SoundCloud already.
Detroit MC Danny Brown just announced his highly anticipated album Old, out September 30th on Fool's Gold Records. After two years of universal acclaim and sold-out shows around the globe, Danny jumps from "artist to watch" to undeniable icon with style as unique as his music, an inspiration to high fashion designers and legions of devoted fans alike. This emotionally-charged concept album is as profound as it is profane, an intoxicating mix of Danny at his most experimental and most accessible, balancing hip-hop grit with electronic club sonics and much, much more. Featuring guest appearances from A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Freddie Gibbs, Purity Ring, Charli XCX, and production from the likes of A-Trak, Rustie, SKYWLKR and Paul White. Old is a psychedelic portrait of rap's most vital and exciting new star. He is currently riding high off of performances at this year's North Coast Music Festival. Check out the video for "ODB" here.
Kill Paris began his journey into music composition at age 16 learning how to play the guitar, which soulfully reflects in his Future Funk style and bass guitar riffs in his music today. While juggling his touring career, Kill Paris has managed to release a 9 track EP on Skrillex's record label, Owsla, and individually release several other official remixes for artists such as Nelly Furtado, No Doubt, and more. His most recent release, a remix of Rudimental's "Feel the Love," charted #1 on Beatport's Top 100 GlitchHop tracks.
Born and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, TOKiMONSTA (Jennifer Lee) was an unfocused pupil of classical piano. However, she has come to use this background to create vast textural soundscapes by utilizing live instruments, percussion, digital manipulation, and dusty vinyl. Through the creation of beats, she is able to fuse vintage sounds with progressive styles into something unique.
Doors at 7:00 PM. Show @ 8:00 PM. Ages 18+.
Tickets go on sale Friday, September 13, 2013 at 12:00 PM noon CST at Silver Wrapper Ticketing.
